Hurricane Protection – Connecticut

The Insurance Store of CT would like to remind homeowners that you can take measures toward hurricane protection this season. When we are in the path of a storm, preparation can prevent costly storm damage. Just a reminder that with the right policy from Insurance Store of CT, hurricane damage will not be one of your worries. It’s hurricane season in Connecticut, and we never know what to expect. When we are in the path of  a hurricane, we expect very high winds and a potential for water damage and roof failure. We can even get a winter hurricane, a nor’easter or a hail storm that can damage your home and automobile. Hopefully we won’t even get to meet the first storm of the season, but if we do it’s always of upmost importance to be prepared. Make sure that your roof is in top condition, because the rooftop is your home’s defense from the elements. Check your attic ventilation, because large quantities of water can get blown inside the vents when winds reach up to 90 miles per hour. Windows and doors, shuttering the windows is an excellent defense against breaking glass.  Also check your surroundings. Secure or put loose items away in your yard, like lawn furniture, recycle bins, toys, tools and bicycles. This includes metal garbage can lids, which can become airborne in a storm. No one wants to think about suffering a loss, but in the event that Connecticut does have a nasty hurricane season The Insurance Store of Connecticut is designed to provide you coverage. If you are interested in learning more about how we can protect your home call The Insurance Store of Connecticut at 860-645-1960.

Homeowners, Renters, Condo Insurance at the Best Rates: The Insurance Store of CT

When you are shopping around for CT Homeowners Insurance in central CT, it’s not just about rates. Sure, you want a local insurance agent that will shop all the possible carriers to get you the best price. You also want friendly, personal service that a neighborhood agency affords. You want to call Sheri Wilson at Insurance Store of CT.

What determines the cost of your homeowners insurance premium? Your premium will vary based on things like the age of your home, the condition your home is in, its construction materials, and its location. We expect older homes to cost more to insure, and wood homes cost more to insure than those built of brick. Your credit history is a factor, crime statistics in Connecticut, your claims history, and whether you have a dog and what breed it is.

If you live near the Connecticut River, you are going to want to protect yourself from the expense of flood damage. Many homeowners are unaware that flood damage is not covered in a standard homeowner’s insurance policy. Most mortgage lenders do not require homeowners to purchase flood insurance unless they live in an area at high risk for floods.

Fire and lightning coverage is included in most standard policies, but read your policy carefully to make sure this important coverage is not excluded. You should also ask your agent or broker if damage caused by perils associated with fire, such as smoke or damage caused by fire extinguishing agents, is covered under your policy.

Personal Property that you own that needs a greater amount of coverage than the rest of your belongings – items such as the family silver, antiques, heirloom items – should be itemized in a scheduled personal property endorsement.  By scheduling your irreplaceable valuables, you can recoup the potential loss of these items.

For more information about our homeowners insurance options, call Sheri Wilson at the Insurance Store of CT at 860-645-1960.
